{Spotlight Project} Shirley Piles Up The Suitcases

There's an art installation in Liverpool (England) called A Case History. It's a collection of concrete cast suitcases painted pink, ochre and grey, all piled up at the corner of Hope Street and Mount Street. Each case 'belongs' to someone important to Liverpool's history, but the cases also represent Liverpool's history as a port and its association with the the sea, merchant shipping and emigration.

When I saw the stack of suitcases in the Born To Roam set, I wanted to make a card inspired by that installation.

I started off by stamping the suitcases image several times in Antique Linen, then watercoloured them in Tattered Rose, Antique Linen and Weathered Wood. I fussy cut three of them, and cut out the small and large suitcases from the fourth.

For my card base I stamped the shoe prints off onto spare card, using Versafine Smoky Grey, before stamping across the lower portion of the card, then stamped the grungy line from Mixed Media Elements to add a bit more movement. I also sponged that portion with Iced Spruce Distress Ink.

A piece of torn washi paper provided the base for my suitcases, and the stamps from Mixed Media Elements and postmark from Mixed Media Grunge complete the background. To finish off, I stamped the sentiment in black and sponged Antique Linen around the edges of the card. Here's another view.

Remember, if you try out any of the techniques from our Spotlight posts and add your project to our Spotlight Project Showcase you have a chance to win a $15 gift certificate (random drawing) OR your choice of 5x7 stamp set + a Spotlight Project guest designer spot (randomly drawn from the Top 3 picks).
